The Lyneal Trust provides canal and canalside holidays in the beautiful North Shropshire borders for people with disabilities illness or injury, or any other vulnerability and their family, friends and carers who may accompany them. Established in 1985 many thousands of people have enjoyed the facilities, which include two canal boats and specially adapted cottages.
In partnership with other community and voluntary groups the Trust works to ensure that these facilities continue to be well used. The Trust operates a Partnership Scheme whereby organisations for annual cost of £100 can have use of the Trust’s facilities for three or four days per year between March and November. This offers the opportunity for groups or families connected with that organisation to enjoy a day on the Llangollen Canal aboard the Shropshire Lad at no costs to themselves; in addition the Trust provides an experienced helmsman to ensure the day can be enjoyed by all.
The Shropshire Lad is a 45 foot disabled friendly canal boat which enables visitors to enjoy a truly relaxing and unhurried day trip through the beautiful North Shropshire borders. The boat includes toilet facilities, a galley with fridge and hob and can carry up to 12 passengers. It has a covered bow area and is designed to be operated by people with disabilities.
The Partnership arrangement also enables groups to enjoy the Trust’s landscaped gardens at Lyneal Wharf, which provide the perfect setting for a picnic or barbeque with the added benefit of fully equipped cottages providing kitchen, washing and toilet facilities. Sited on the banks of the Llangollen Canal in the village of Lyneal, it is only three miles south east of Ellesmere in North Shropshire.
Once a group has joined the Partnership they are provided with contact details so that they can arrange for their trips to take place. If more than four trips are ever required in a year these can be reserved for an additional cost of £25 per trip.
Current Partners include:
